Nancy Cook Bio

Music is often poetically described as a vehicle.  In the case of Nancy Cook, the term is literal.  In the course of her musical career, Nancy’s songs have taken her far and wide--the Pacific Northwest, California, through the Rocky Mountains, down to Texas, out to Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Indiana, and overseas to Italy, Jordan, Japan, and Korea.

She is at ease playing everywhere from large halls to cozy cafes, living room concerts, peace conferences, festivals and the like. Her repertoire runs the gamut—playing songs from her half dozen independent releases, to well loved covers by John Denver, Bonnie Raitt, the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Patsy Cline, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell.

In the large concert format, Nancy has opened as a solo artist for such diverse national acts as Shawn Colvin, Lyle Lovett, Leo Kottke, David Wilcox, Warren Zevon, Rodney Crowell, Karla Bonoff, David Bromberg and Leon Russell. Many of these opening dates were in Summit County Colorado as well as throughout the rest of  Colorado.  In listening settings such as these, she enjoys sharing the stories that surround many of her songs—stories of the journey we all share.

Nancy also still enjoys doing the occasional high energy blues /classic rock dance band gig, and has a great back up crew to call on for those events as well.

Nancy’s fourth CD of original music, “Practice,” is now available (along with previous releases) through two internet distributors, pickleheadmusic.com, and cdbaby.com/nancycook.  Her songs can also be digitally downloaded through I-Tunes and Rhapsody.  Her CD’s are available in Summit County Colorado at Winds of Change and Affordable Music, and at various independent music dealers nationwide.  Response to songs on “Practice” allowed Nancy to participate in an international Transformational Love conference in Italy in the fall of 2003, and to weave her music into bully proofing programs in the public school system at several locations around the US.

After living in Florida through her early twenties, Nancy now calls Summit County ie. the Breckenridge area (in the Colorado Rockies, about an hour west of Denver) home. The beauty of the surrounding mountains in Frisco, Keystone, Copper Mtn and Breckenridge are a constant inspiration for song. These days, though, “home” might more accurately describe the interior of her car, as she continues to travel extensively to reach a wider audience.  Tour plans for 2006-07 include: her home , Summit County, Breckenridge Colorado, state of Colorado, Texas, the southeastern states, and the Pacific Northwest, sharing her songs, windsurfing, and teaching at writing and performance workshops.
